About this day
Anselm, born at Aosta in Italy, became a Benedictine monk and abbot of Bec in Normandy, then Archbishop of Canterbury, where he defended the freedom of the Church against the English kings. His writings earned him the title Father of Scholasticism. He died in 1109.
