About this day
Catherine of Siena, a Dominican tertiary given to prayer and penance, served the sick and poor and worked for peace and the reform of the Church, urging Pope Gregory XI to return from Avignon to Rome. She died in 1380; in 1970 she was declared a Doctor of the Church.
