About this day
Juan Diego, an Indian convert of Mexico, was the one to whom the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared at Tepeyac in December 1531, leaving her image on his cloak as Our Lady of Guadalupe. His memorial falls on the date of her first appearance. He was canonized in 2002.
