About this day
Polycarp, Bishop of Smyrna, had been a disciple of Saint John the Apostle. Urged to renounce Christ, he answered, “For eighty-six years I have served him and he has never wronged me.” Condemned to the fire about 155, he was left unharmed by the flames and killed with a dagger.
