About this day
Paul Miki, a Japanese Jesuit, and twenty-five companions — priests, brothers, catechists and laymen, Franciscans and Jesuits, among them boys — were crucified on a hill at Nagasaki in 1597. They were the first martyrs of East Asia to be canonized, in 1862.
