Saint Benedict, Abbot

About this day

Benedict of Nursia left Rome to seek God as a hermit at Subiaco and later founded the monastery of Monte Cassino. His Rule, a life of prayer and work in community under an abbot, shaped Western monasticism. He is a patron of Europe.
