About this day
Elizabeth, daughter of the King of Hungary, married Louis of Thuringia and bore him three children. Widowed young, she embraced poverty as a Secular Franciscan and served the sick in a hospital she founded. She died in 1231, aged twenty-four, and was canonized four years later.
