About this day
Gertrude, entrusted as a young child to the nuns of Helfta in Saxony, became one of the great mystics of the thirteenth century. Her writings, drawn from the liturgy and Scripture, are among the earliest witnesses to devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She died about 1302.
