About this day
Padre Pio, born Francesco Forgione, was an Italian Capuchin friar and priest at San Giovanni Rotondo. Bearing the stigmata from 1918, he spent long hours each day hearing confessions and celebrating Mass. He died on September 23, 1968, and was canonized in 2002.
