About this day
Josephine Bakhita was kidnapped as a child in Sudan and sold into slavery. Brought to Italy, she came to know Christ through the Canossian Sisters, was baptized in 1890 and later joined them, serving humbly until her death on February 8, 1947. She was canonized in 2000.
