About this day
Peter Damian, raised in poverty, became a hermit and then abbot at Fonte Avellana. Made Cardinal Bishop of Ostia in 1057, he worked with the popes for the reform of the Church. He died in 1072 and was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1828.
