About this day
Basil the Great (died 379), Bishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia, and his close friend Gregory Nazianzen (died 390), for a time Bishop of Constantinople, defended the divinity of Christ against the Arian heresy. Basil's monastic rules still guide Eastern monks; Gregory is called “the Theologian.”
