About this day
Aloysius Gonzaga, heir to an Italian princely family, renounced his inheritance to enter the Society of Jesus. While a student in Rome he nursed victims of the plague, caught the disease himself, and died on June 21, 1591, aged twenty-three. He is a patron of youth.
