Saints Nereus and Achilleus, Martyrs

About this day

Nereus and Achilleus were Roman soldiers who, on becoming Christians, laid down their commission and were beheaded for the faith. Pope Saint Damasus honored them with an epitaph, and they were buried in the catacomb of Domitilla on the Via Ardeatina.
