The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

About this day

This memorial recalls that the Blessed Virgin Mary was presented as a child in the Temple by her parents, Saints Joachim and Anne, and dedicated to God from her earliest years. Long kept in the East, the celebration was adopted in the West in the fourteenth century.
