About this day
Catherine, a learned virgin of Alexandria, confessed Christ before the emperor in the early fourth century and won to the faith the philosophers sent to dispute with her. When the spiked wheel prepared for her was shattered, she was beheaded. She is a patroness of students and philosophers.
