About this day
Josaphat Kuntsevych, a Basilian monk and archbishop of Polotsk in present-day Belarus, worked for the union of the Ruthenian Church with the See of Rome. Opponents of the union killed him at Vitebsk in 1623; he was the first saint of the Eastern Church canonized by Rome.
