About this day
Martin, a Roman soldier, shared his cloak with a freezing beggar at Amiens while still a catechumen. After baptism he became a disciple of Saint Hilary, founded a monastery at Ligugé, and as bishop of Tours brought the Gospel to the countryside of Gaul. He died in 397.
