About this day
John Henry Newman, an Anglican clergyman and leader of the Oxford Movement, was received into the Catholic Church on October 9, 1845. He founded the Oratory in England, became a cardinal in 1879, was canonized in 2019, and was named a Doctor of the Church in 2025.
