About this day
This feast honors the Cross of Christ as the means of our redemption. It began in Jerusalem, where September 14 marked the dedication of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre, built by Emperor Constantine over the site of Christ's tomb, and it reached the West in the seventh century.
