About this day
John of Antioch, called Chrysostom, "golden-mouthed," for his preaching, became archbishop of Constantinople. He preached fearlessly against corruption and for the poor, was exiled through the enmity of the empress, and died in exile in 407. He is a Doctor of the Church.
